Don't miss this screening and conversation about the film Race With the Devil as part of the Bullock Museum's Texas Focus film series. Shot on location in San Antonio, Castroville, Tarpley, and Leakey, Texas, the film was directed by native Texan Jack Starrett, best known for his role in the film Blazing Saddles (1974). Starrett made his directorial debut in 1969 with the biker film Run, Angel, Run, one in a series of biker films he would be a part of during his career.

In Race With the Devil, two motorcycle dealership owners from San Antonio and their wives embark on a recreational roadtrip to Colorado. They soon witness disturbing rituals and must dodge attacks by members of a Satanic cult in a fight for survival.

About the Film

Two motorcycle dealership owners from San Antonio and their wives embark on a recreational roadtrip to Colorado. After camping out in their RV, they soon find themselves witness to disturbing rituals by a Satanist cult and a chase ensues as they must defensively dodge attacks by the cultists in order to survive.

Race with the Devil was shot on location in San Antonio, Castroville, Tarpley, and Leakey, Texas. Starrett directed the similar B-movie action film A Small Town in Texas the following year.

About the Filmmakers

Jack Starrett, a native Texan, was an actor and film director best known for his role in the film Blazing Saddles(1974). Starrett made his directorial debut in 1969 with the biker film Run, Angel, Run one in a series of biker films he would be a part of in his career. Starrett also acted in other films often typecast as a enervating police officer. He also directed episodes of television and acted in shows such as Hill Street BluesThe A-Team

and Knight Rider.

Lee Frost, an Arizona native, was a writer, director, producer, cinematographer, editor and actor best known for directing exploitation films.

Wes Bishop, a native to Tennessee, was a writer, actor and producer that frequently collaborated with Lee Frost on exploitation films.

Gary Chason has been working in cinema since 1970 and has worked on many amazing Texas films, including: Paris Texas, Brewster McCloud and Student Bodies.
