Rainbow in the desert
During brief summer showers rainbows often appear but this one happen to appear at the perfect spot. There is gold at the end of a rainbow.
EnlargeSunset at the Window
Sunset from the Chisos basin looking towards the Window to the West is always a treat. How can you not relax when experiencing such beauty? Taken October 2006 on our last trip to the park.
EnlargeSunset from Chisos Basin camp
Anyone who has ever visited Big Bend knows the evening lighting is magical. This was one of those evenings. Our visit in October 2006 and our view from our camp.
EnlargeSouth Rim!
Our hike to the South Rim in October 2006 was amazing! Santa Elena canyon looks so tiny from this vantage point. Truly magical.
EnlargeMighty Sierra del Castolon
One of our favorite places in the park, the history of this structure is appealing to my Geologist hubby. Then again, the whole park is appealing to him and me (a life long admitted rock hound.)
EnlargeDugout Wells on a Fine Day
The windmill at Dugout Wells. After a windy and rainy night, this next day was beautiful and Dugout Wells looked better as it had recovered from the drought years. This was taken May 2015.
EnlargeUp in the Chisos Basin
Walking around near the Chisos Mountains Lodge, came upon this beautiful scene from May 2015.
EnlargeMoon Over Chimney
My friend and I were out taking a hike toward Mule Ears and noticed a random trail going out into the desert. We turned around to go back and we saw this amazing view.
EnlargeIgneous Extrusion (Dike) on the Shoulder of the Chisos Mountains
Extrusions of volcanic igneous rock are common on the western side of the park. This dike sits on the western shoulder of the Chisos Mountains.
EnlargeCasa Grande
After coming up through low, cold-air clouds along the Lost Mine Peak Trail, I saw this view of Casa Grande rising up from the passing cloud.
