About the Album

The Octopus Project’s 6th album, Memory Mirror, finds the group following a musical path that veers through blown-out rock’n’roll, vivid electronic colors, surreal pop and expansive psych landscapes.  Recorded by the band, mixed by Danny Reisch (Shearwater, White Denim) & Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, Flaming Lips), and mastered by Greg Calbi (David Bowie, Talking Heads), the album is the band’s most tightly focused work to date, distilling their diverse sonic palette into an explosive sound all their own.

About the Band

The Octopus Project has been releasing joyous party music since 2002. As performers they’ve earned a reputation for elaborate multimedia experiments and extremely loud, extremely fun live shows - a practice they’ve pursued over a decade of worldwide touring that has included festival stages such as Coachella, Lollapalooza and All Tomorrow’s Parties, and tours as handpicked support for artists as diverse as Aesop Rock, DEVO, and Explosions in the Sky.  Also active as composers for video games and film, they were awarded the Special Jury Award for Musical Score at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival for their work on the film Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter. They are currently working on Damsel (directed by the Zellner Bros. and starring Robert Pattinson), to be released in 2017.

About the Experience

A typical Octopus Project show is already an immersive, grab-you-by the-senses experience, but the unique Texas Spirit Theater promises to take things to the next level.  Besides a triptych of huge projection screens, the theater also features rumbling seats, indoor weather effects (wind! lightning! rain!) and a 9-channel surround sound system to name just a few of the special features.  Custom-built to present multi-media shows dramatizing Texas history, this presentation represents the first time the theater has invited an artist to choreograph the full resources of the venue to enhance a musical performance.   For the band it’s like getting the keys to a spaceship and being asked to drive - they can’t wait to take y’all along for the ride!
