Enjoy after-hours exhibition access and take in an authentic and cinematic look at cowboys in the American West.

Event Details

Join us after work every Third Thursday for special extended Museum hours from 5 to 7 p.m.! Explore the exhibitions, enjoy happy hour food and drinks in The Star Cafe, and connect to Texas through unique interactive experiences. Different activities are offered each month. Museum garage parking is free after 5 p.m.

From 6 to 7:30 p.m. ride alongside the modern working cowboys on some of America’s largest and most remote cattle ranches. Witness the accounts of the cowboys themselves and discover the rewards and hardships of a celebrated but misunderstood way of life. Cowboys was filmed on 10 of the nation’s largest cattle ranches across eight states in the American West, including right here in Texas. Cowboys: A Documentary Portrait premiered at the Austin Film Festival in 2019 and won the Audience Choice Award.

From 7:30 to 8 p.m., stay after the film for a Q&A panel with Directors and filmmakers Bud Force and Jeffrey Brown and Bullock Associate Curator James McReynolds.

Museum exhibition galleries will be open for exploration between 5 and 7 p.m. The Cowboys: A Documentary Portrait program is included in the price of exhibition admission. Onsite exhibition admission ticket sales end at 6:50 p.m.

About Public Programs

Public programs at the Bullock Museum explore relevant history and celebrate the culture that has shaped our modern world. About the Speakers

An award-winning director and cinematographer based in Texas, Bud Force has been involved in the agriculture industry most of his life. Bud is a former rodeo cowboy who splits his time working on ranches and directing documentaries and brand films around the world.

Jeffrey Brown has produced award-winning narrative features and feature documentaries in Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America, playing festivals (Sundance, IDFA, SXSW, Rotterdam, Tribeca) and released internationally (Netflix, HBO, Showtime, PBS, ESPN, AMC).

Associate Curator of Special Projects, James McReynolds, is an experienced museum professional. He earned a Master’s Degree in History and has worked at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in several capacities, including as Head of Public Programs in the education department, and now as part of the team developing concepts and content for exhibitions at the Museum.
