Enjoy a FREE day full of discovery and learning at the Bullock Museum reserved specifically for homeschool families.

Event Details

Participate in hands-on activities and special classes all about cowboys and space inspired by special exhibitions, Cowboys in Space and Fantastic Worlds and Beyond Planet Earth. Museum admission is free for homeschool families on this date and school group rates for films in the IMAX® Theatre and Texas Spirit Theatre are available from 9:00am-5:00pm.

Attend scheduled activities and paid classes

  • 10:00am-11:00am: Join us with your 2-5 year olds at Little Texans and create an artful space scene to send home to all earthlings as you imagine a view of space from the cockpit of your rocket ship. 
  • 10:00am-12:00pm: Participate in special paid classes for a more in-depth look at various topics.
  • Buy tickets to see IMAX documentaries America's Musical Journey, and Apollo 11: First Steps Edition

Drop-in anytime between 10:00am-2:00pm for activities, resources, and exhibits.

 

Available Classes

Hands-on classes taught by museum educators and partner organizations give your students an opportunity to spend more time exploring topics that relate to STEAM learning and inspired by special exhibitions, Beyond Planet Earth: The Future of Space Exploration and Cowboys in Space and Fantastic Worlds.

By popular demand, reserve a seat in a class in advance for a small fee. Space is limited in each class and reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To allow as many students as possible access to these unique learning opportunities, we ask that you choose only one class for your student or students to attend. Tickets are required only for students, not adults. All classes are $4 per student. Class information below.

10:00am: Planets & Moons by Mad Science

Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse in this “mad” planetary tour!  Learn how the planets stack up.  Build and take home a Gravity Assisted Launcher™! This class is appropriate for students ages 5 and older and lasts one hour.

10:00am: Character Building for Comics by Badgerdog

How do you create a character that is truly unique and original? In this workshop, you'll explore how power of opposites plays an important role in creating complex and multidimensional comic book characters. You'll leave having designed your very own hero or villain that is unlike any character ever seen before! This class is appropriate for students ages 8 and older and lasts 45 minutes.

11:00am: Space Phenomena by Mad Science

Probe the mysteries of meteors and bounce around satellite light in this phenomenal program on space events!  See comets up close as one is formed before your eyes, and take home your very own Space Telescope™! This class is appropriate for students ages 8 and older and lasts one hour.

11:00am: Drawing Your World by Badgerdog

How do you create the world of a comic book? In this workshop, you'll practice the nuts-and-bolts of sketching, vanishing lines, horizon lines, point-of-view. Learn how to incorporate simple shapes to make more complex things as you think through basic shapes like spheres, cylinders, and cones to create a more complicated world (and story), piece by piece. This class is appropriate for students ages 8 and older and lasts 45 minutes.
