Texas Artisan Feature: Brookwood Community Ceramics

Programs

June 4, 2015 11:00am - 4:00pm

Texas artisans tell their stories through their work. The Museum Store will feature pottery, artwork, cookbooks, food products, and literature from local companies throughout the summer. On select days, hear from the artisans themselves as they demonstrate their products and discuss how their own Texas stories inspire their creations.

Visit the Museum Store to see featured hand-painted ceramics from members of the Brookwood Community.

Get to Know the Artisans

The Brookwood Community, located in Brookshire, TX, provides an educational environment that creates jobs, builds a sense of belonging, and demands dignity and respect for adults with disabilities. Ceramicists, staff, and citizens of Brookwood work in the ceramics shop to create beautiful hand-painted pieces of pottery. Each product is cut out of clay, dried and wet sanded, painted, glazed, and fired in one of twelve kilns. Sales of these pottery pieces go towards supporting the Brookwood Community.
