Enjoy a FREE day full of discovery and learning at the Bullock Museum for homeschool families.

Event Details

Enjoy free admission all day and explore hands-on activity stations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to learn what archaeology can teach us about Texas history and the world’s ancient civilizations and people.

Museum admission is free for homeschool families and RSVPs are not required. Discounted school group rates for films in the IMAX® Theatre and Texas Spirit Theater are available from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; film tickets may be purchased in advance online and at the Museum on Homeschool Day.

Directions and Parking Information

Drop-in activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Participate in a Texas history-themed mock archaeological dig and sort activity.
  • Design and decorate pottery based on Chinese Ming designs.
  • Put your math skills to the test by learning to count with a yupana, a device used by the Incan people.
  • Examine projectile points from different eras of Texas history.
  • Design an ancient Greek coin.
  • Play the Royal Game of Ur, one of the world’s first-ever board games.
  • Buy tickets to see IMAX documentaries Cities of the FutureWild Rescueand T. REX, and tickets to the Texas Spirit Theater films Shipwrecked and Star of Destiny.
  • Explore Museum exhibitions with educational activity guides.

Available Classes

Hands-on classes give your students an opportunity to spend more time exploring topics that relate to the art and culture of the numerous communities and cultures in Texas.

Homeschool Day classes are free to attend and are available on a first-come first-served basis. The class is limited to 25 students. Accompanying adults are expected to stay with their students for the duration of the class. See class information below.

  • Journey to the Afterlife | 10:30 a.m.
    Explore Ancient Egyptians’ customs and traditions surrounding their loved one’s journey to the afterlife. Examine the process of mummification by mummifying an apple and crafting your own sarcophagus.
