Print Page

Kanesha Jackson (b. 1989), from Hempstead, Texas, won this saddle in 2013 as the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo (BPIR) All Around Cowgirl. To win the title All Around Cowgirl, Jackson competed in Ladies Barrel Racing and Ladies Steer Undecorating (the female version of steer wrestling). She won the same honor at the BPIR in 2017.

Jackson has been riding horses competitively since she was 5 years old. She competed in various youth associations around Texas, winning her first All Around saddle with the BPIR at the age of 13 — the youngest in the association to achieve that accomplishment. Now competing on the semipro level, Kanesha has been invited three times to the All Star Rodeo held in Denver and is invited annually to the Sherrylynn Johnson Invitational Barrel Race. Jackson was the first African American female to be in the top 30 in the Cowboy Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) in 2016. Jackson is currently working on fulfilling the requirements needed to go pro with the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association. Her goal is the be the first African American female to compete at the National Finals Rodeo.
