What subject matter are you looking for?

Enter a photograph that tells the story of your connection to a Texas freedom colony. Some examples of artifacts are a pin from your great-grandmother, a handkerchief, a hat from your grandfather, a family bible, photos, obituaries, and more.

What makes a good image?

A photograph of your artifact that is close and in focus and taken on a surface that lets it shine! Flat submissions like newspaper clippings and photos should be photographed without shadows or scanned if possible.

How many photographs can I enter?

You may enter as many photographs as you like, but each photograph requires a separate submission.

Can I submit a story that is longer than 200 characters?

You are encouraged to share your full story by completing this survey through the Texas Freedom Colonies Project™.

Do I have to be a professional photographer to enter?

No. You just have to be a good visual storyteller.
