Visiting During Construction

How to get here, where to park, and when to arrive

A new state office building, underground parking and public green space are being built on Congress Avenue across from the Bullock Museum. When completed, the tree-lined promenade will provide a beautiful, family-friendly space leading all the way to the Texas State Capitol.

How do I get to the Museum?

The best access via car to the Museum will be via MLK or 15th Street to Colorado Street. Access to the Museum's parking garage is on 18th Street.

For the duration of the construction project, Congress Avenue at the front of the Bullock Museum will be closed to vehicular traffic. Pedestrians will still be able to cross the Museum's Plaza.

Please follow street signs, as routes and temporary closures are subject to change depending on road and utility work. For more information, please visit our Parking and Directions page.

During the ongoing construction, we recommend that you allow extra time when coming to the Museum for IMAX screenings and other timed events.

Where can I park?

The Museum's underground parking garage will remain open throughout the construction project. The entrance to the garage is on 18th Street, which can be accessed via Colorado Street. Maximum garage height is seven feet.

Dedicated bicycle parking is available at the entrance of the garage.

Limited, metered street parking is available within walking distance. For more information, please visit our Parking and Directions page.

What if I need to drop someone off?

If driving to the Museum, there is a dedicated visitor drop off zone on 18th Street.

School group visits

The bus loading zone is located behind the Museum on Colorado Street.  Buses should approach Colorado Street from the south via 15th Street and unload students behind the Museum on the east side of the street for safety.

Please note: bus parking is not available onsite or in the surface lot behind the Museum. Bus parking is available near the Texas State Capitol on Trinity between 13th and 14th. For the easiest arrival, we recommend that groups designate a separate person to check in and pay at Ticketing while the bus is being parked. For more information, please visit our Field Trips page.

Accessibility

Accessible routes into and out of the Museum will be maintained throughout the construction process. Please visit our Accessibility page for additional information.
