Programs

September 16, 2015 7:00pm - 8:00pm

Watch some of the best (and worst) Texas-centric movies and television shows with historians, authors, and media experts as they expose the historical facts and fiction on-screen.

This Week in B-Movies and Bad History

Explore the golden age westerns, with influential films like Ride Lonesome, Comanche Station, and The Tall T that represent some of the last successful low-budget westerns made in Hollywood. Even though the popularity of traditional westerns declined in America after the 1950s, these films motivated filmmakers from around the world to reinvent the genre in the decades that followed.

Dr. Don Graham, Professor of English at the University of Texas and author of numerous books on Texas culture, and Dr. Tom Schatz, Professor and Executive Director of the University of Texas Film Institute, explore the westerns directed by Bud Boetticher through select movie clips and conversation.
