Social Studies Film and Lecture Series Professional Development: Exploration in Texas

Programs

May 11, 2015 4:00pm - 7:00pm

Educators, join Austin ISD and the Bullock Museum for an exhibit, film, and discussion about early exploration in Texas.

Who was the 17th century French explorer La Salle? How did the sinking of his ship, La Belle, change the history of Texas? What technological innovations were used to excavate and conserve this 300-year old ship and its artifacts? Come to this Social Studies Film and Lecture Series on La Salle and La Belle and get answers to these and other questions about European Exploration and the TEKS.

We will view the film Shipwrecked which depicts the story through the eyes of a young French colonist, visit the La Belle exhibit, then meet for discussion and information from elementary educators about teaching European exploration.  Teachers will receive dinner and complimentary parking in addition to exhibit and film admission and lesson plans.  Come at 4:00 p.m. to mingle and enjoy snacks; the movie begins at 4:30 p.m.
