Programs

June 10, 2015 11:00am - 4:00pm

Texas artisans tell their stories through their work. The Museum Store will feature pottery, artwork, cookbooks, food products, and literature from local companies throughout the summer. On select days, hear from the artisans themselves as they demonstrate their products and discuss how their own Texas stories inspire their creations.

Get to Know the Artisans

This Austin-based company creates fashionable, comfortable hats. The owner, Alice Eichelmann, originally had the concept while trying to find a good hat for gardening while living in Mexico. Based on a wide brimmed palm hat, she designed the signature Tula Hat, which gives UPF 50+ protection—great for the hot Texas sun.

Tula Hats works with a village in Mexico that has a 400 year history of hat making. The hats are hand-woven from palm, which is harvested twice a year. The palm strands are tightly woven and then sewn together, before being pressed in Tula Hat’s custom hat blocks to make the final shape.
