Summer Family Programs

Spend Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Museum this summer for hands-on fun and discovery.

Families with kids from toddlers to tweens can enjoy programs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 12, 2017 - August 3, 2017. These drop-in programs are free for Members or with museum admission and run from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m.

Make It Tuesdays: Create, invent, and make things happen at these guided experiences for the whole family. From sailing ships to building blocks, mapping to music, you'll leave each of these hands-on programs with a memory of your visit!

Sense-sational Thursdays: Explore, observe, and listen. Engage all five senses at these programs with activities designed for families to do together!

Summer Free Family Film Series

Join us on select Saturdays all summer long for our Summer Free Family Film Series with the theme, A Magical Fantastical Adventure.

These programs are FREE and open to the public with preferred seating for Museum members. You will find some old favorites, and discover some soon to be.

Pride & Joy: The Texas Blues of Stevie Ray Vaughan

The quintessential exhibition on this blues legend, featuring guitars, stage outfits, handwritten lyrics, and family photographs. Experiment with guitar sounds using effects pedals or play drums guided by an expert.

Common Ground: The Music Festival Experience

Based on the collections of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, artifacts and concert footage come together in this dynamic exhibition which tells the story of the music festival and its ability to bring people together.

Purchased Lives: The American Slave Trade from 1808 to 1865

Purchased Lives examines the lives of individuals intertwined in the domestic slave trade by exploring slavery’s reach beyond New Orleans and Galveston, beyond Texas, beyond the South, and into the very fabric of America.

Pong to Pokémon: The Evolution of Electronic Gaming

Take a turn at arcade classics and explore the cultural phenomenon of electronic gaming through rare artifacts and a behind-the-scenes look at the technology and artistry that drive game development.

Wild Africa
Screening daily all summer of 2017

Tiny Giants
Screening Monday-Saturday all summer of 2017

In an adventure of giant proportions, Tiny Giants reveals the astonishing lives of the smallest of animals. Using the incredibly immersive power of specialist 3D cameras, audiences are transported in a very intimate way into another world to experience the titanic battles these creatures face to survive.
