Wednesday Workshops: Stand Up Against Intolerance

Programs

July 6, 2016 11:00am - 1:00pm

Create your own artifact or work of art to remember your museum visit. This more in-depth drop-in program is great for families with kids ages six and up

Take part in the Bullock Museum’s Butterfly Project, a large scale installation comprised of thousands of uniquely beautiful butterflies. In this workshop families will explore the poem that inspired the project, “The Butterfly” written in 1942 by a child in a concentration camp. Taking inspiration from the poem, families will identify how to take a stand against intolerance and create a butterfly to represent endurance, change, hope and life.

This workshop will explore difficult topics related to the Holocaust. To better understand the topic, families will explore the topic of intolerance through literature and will pledge to stand up against intolerance and spread hope by creating a beautiful butterfly.

This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Support for the Bullock Museum's exhibitions and education programs provided by the Texas State History Museum Foundation.
