Privacy policy
The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and its parent agency the State Preservation Board are strongly committed to protecting the privacy of our online guests, customers, members, donors, and friends. We believe that informing our visitors about the types of information we collect and how we use it is crucial.
This privacy policy applies to all sites maintained or contracted by the State Preservation Board, which manages the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum (SPB/BBTSHM), including:

Information Collection and Use
The BBTSHM/SPB is the sole owner of information collected on the sites listed above. With the exception of membership information entered through Contribute.com, will not sell, share, or rent to others any personal information gathered on the Internet. The only information we share will be of an anonymous nature, such as survey results, sales reports, or general demographic statistics.
We may share membership information entered during online membership purchases with other non-profit groups meeting our member's interest profiles. This is done via a "list exchange" whereby we receive a list of potential new members at the Museum. No financial information is exchanged. If you would like your membership information withheld from such exchanges, please contact the membership office at (512) 936 4602 or email membership@thestoryoftexas.com.
With few exceptions, you are entitled on request to be informed about the information that we collect about you. Under Sections 552.021 and 552.023 of the Government Code, you are also entitled to receive and review this information. Under Section 559.004 of the Government Code, you are entitled to have us correct any information about you in our possession that is incorrect.
Registration
(store accounts, email systems signup, txawards)
During registration a user is required to give their contact information (such as name and email address) which is saved and used to maintain accounts and contact the user about the services on our site for which they have expressed interest. It is optional for the user to provide demographic information (such as age and gender), and unique identifiers (such as membership or promotional identification numbers), but encouraged so we can provide a more personalized experience on our site. This information is not shared or sold.
Order
(membership purchases, Store/Giftshop purchases, Museumtix purchases)
To complete online purchases of merchandise and benefits, a user must provide contact information (like name and shipping address) and financial information (like credit card number, expiration date). Such information is always transferred via a secure connection to the server. This information is used for billing purposes and to complete customer's orders. If we have trouble processing an order, this contact information is used to get in touch with the user. This information is not shared or sold (for specific system descriptions, see "third party vendors," below).
A credit card, debit card, charge card, or access device number that is collected, assembled, or maintained by or for a governmental body is confidential. [see the statute here]
With the exception of memberships, we will not use this information for contact with the customer outside the scope of the order.
Cookies
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive containing information about the user, used to track activity on certain parts of the site, remember passwords, or identify you as a certified connection during secured communications. Cookies are used for various functions by our third party vendors, such as managing and streamlining your logon procedures. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our sites.
Log Files
For site management and development functions, we use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track aggregate users' viewing histories, and gather broad demographic information. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information by the SPB/BBTSHM, and will not be released to any outside parties.
E-Mail
State agencies may not sell or release the e-mail addresses of members of the public that have been provided to communicate electronically with a government body without the affirmative consent of the affected member of the public. Personally identifiable information contained in a question or comment sent to the SPB/BBTSHM in an e-mail message is only used by the SPB/BBTSHM to respond to the request and to analyze trends. The SPB/BBTSHM may redirect the message to another government agency or government employee who is in a better position to answer the question. [see the statute here]
