Unique business opportunity in Austin, Texas

New restaurant operator needed for renovated museum cafe

August 8, 2016 (AUSTIN, TX) — The award-winning Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin, Texas, has a unique business opportunity for an operator to develop a restaurant in a newly renovated cafe space. Located just north of the Texas State Capitol and adjacent to the University of Texas campus, the state's official history museum welcomes about 450,000 visitors per year.

The museum is looking for a restaurant operator to assume operation of the 6,800-square-foot cafe space that has been redesigned by Verokolt, an Austin firm that has designed popular Austin restaurants like 24 Diner, Irene's, Italic and more.

The 150+-seat indoor/outdoor cafe space is move-in ready with electricity and water paid and no property taxes. The restaurant space features a fully equipped commercial kitchen with walk-in freezer, ranges, fryers, grills and more. Other amenities include a bonus flexible storage area near the kitchen, a shared loading dock for deliveries, and free parking for cafe staff. In addition, the museum will provide marketing and website support.

The Bullock Museum's hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Evening programming runs until 10 p.m. on select nights for scheduled museum and third-party rental events.

Working within the museum's hours, the operator will be able to develop menus for a diverse audience, which includes walk-up visitors of all ages, large groups, museum staff and volunteers, nearby office workers, and those attending special events.

Close proximity to State of Texas offices and the University of Texas campus provides a heavy, built-in lunch crowd with strong potential to support breakfast offerings and evening service when the museum is open at night. Event catering in the museum spaces (not cafe) is managed by an off-site caterer under an existing contractual arrangement.

The cafe is an important part of the museum visitor experience and supports the mission of the museum.

Proposals from experienced, financially qualified and interested operators will be accepted on or before September 23, 2016. Proposal documents are located at http://bit.ly/BullockCafe and those who are interested are encouraged to contact the museum for more information or to set up a tour of the space.
