On July 24, 1684, the French explorer La Salle sailed from France to North America with a large expedition designed to establish a French colony on the Gulf of Mexico, west of the Mississippi. The expedition was plagued by pirates, poor navigation and conflict with American Indians. This website offers teachers an educational history of Texas as shaped by individual courage and the global exploration of the La Salle expedition.
